A 73-year-old man died after being hit by a car in Stroud yesterday evening.
The pedestrian, who was from Stroud, was hit by a blue BMW 118d outside the Tesco superstore in Stratford Road at 5.35pm.
A 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst under the influence of drugs and possession of Class A drugs.
Sadly despite the best efforts of members of the public and emergency response teams, the elderly man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A motorist was arrested for providing a positive roadside drug test, police said.
The road remained closed for four-and-a-half hours while officers examined the scene.
