PUPILS at Longney Primary School enjoyed a festive morning of Christmas carols around a campfire on Monday.

As part of Forest School, which is a programme designed to get pupils outdoors and learning in different environments, the whole school, including pupils, teachers and parents spent a morning in the woods.

Many of the old classics, such as Away in a Manger and Silent Night, were sung by the group.

Head teacher Penny Howard believes Forest School is a brilliant idea because it brings variety to the curriculum.

“It is a great opportunity for children to learn about the environment but also simply to get outside and become more active,” said Ms Howard.

“Some children struggle to focus if they are indoors all day and Forest School mix things up.”

One class per week normally takes part in Forest School, however, for Christmas the whole school came together.
