THE mayor of Weston-super-Mare returned to her hometown of Dursley last weekend for a brief visit.

Cllr Jocelyn Holder grew up in the town before moving to Weston where she is now its mayor.

Last Saturday, she returned to the town, visiting her old home, school and the church where she was married before enjoying a Dursley Rugby Club match in the afternoon.

While there, she met her Dursley counterpart Cllr Neil Grecian as well club officials before watching the side's 33-0 victory.

Cllr Holder said: “I was delighted to be invited to Dursley as it is where I was born and lived for many years.

"During my visit I was able to go past places that hold many memories for me - the house where I lived, the school I went to, and the church I got married in.

"Whilst Dursley has changed over the years, I am so pleased it has done so without losing it’s character or charm.

"I then finished the day with a visit to the rugby club and received such a warm welcome – and was delighted to see Dursley win the game!”

Like many others, her father worked at Lister for more than 40 years.

Mayor of Dursley Neil Grecian said: "It was good to meet the mayor of Weston and hear about her life in Dursley.

"She was very complimentary about what was going on in our town today.

"We were both impressed by the work Dursley Rugby are doing with young people. They have 500 or so involved with activities, especially on a Sunday.

"It was also good to see the Dursley first 15 beat North Bristol in the game we watched after lunch."
