A CIRENCESTER family’s Christmas light display in memory of a much loved wife, mother and grandmother is raising funds for a local hospice.

Kelvin Wearing from South Cerney arranges the special display each year in memory of his wife, Sandra, with the help of his family.

A notice by the dazzling display reads, “This light display is in memory of a dear wife, beloved mother and much loved nanny. All donations will be going to the Leckhampton Court Sue Ryder Care Hospice where she spent her final days. Thank you.”

In the past four years the family have raised more than £1,200 for Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice through their charity Christmas lights display and a charity summer BBQ.

The figure could pay for eight Sue Ryder nurses for a day at the hospice, which provides the only inpatient hospice care in the county. As a charity all of its services are provided for free but it costs £10,000 to run every day.

This year the Christmas charity display is made up of 63 silhouettes, a 3D Christmas tree, four sets of icicle lights, two twinkling snow curtains, two snowflake curtains, four Christmas inflatables, three reindeer families, a train, sea saw and kaleidoscope with four reindeer pulling a sleigh.

You can see the display and donate at Beverstone Road, South Cerney, Cirencester, Gloucestershire until January 1.

Kelvin’s daughter, Debbie Walton said: “The work the hospice does is amazing. As mum loved the Christmas lights this seems like the perfect way to raise valuable funds for the hospice.

"We as a family are incredibly grateful to the hospice for everything they did for mum and for us too. The display keeps getting bigger every year with new additions!

“We would love to raise lots of money for the hospice, so please come and see the display and donate if you can.”

Elise Hoadley, hospice director at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice said: “This is beautiful way to remember someone special and raise funds for our hospice.

"Not only will it spread joy to local families but it will help raise funds so we can provide care for local families at a time they need us most.

"We are so grateful to people like Kelvin and his family for fundraising for us – as a charity we can’t give our care without their vital support. Everyone at the hospice sends their best wishes to them for Christmas.”
