Cirencester 6-9 Gordon League

ON a bitterly cold day at the Whiteway, Cirencester welcomed Gordon League.

As in previous games the home side started brightly enjoying a large percentage of the ball, but were unable to capitalise on this with points as in the previous game.

This time Cirencester squandered chances with the final passes going to ground or an incorrect decision being made, which enabled the away side to prevent a score.

From all this pressure Ciren achieved an Iwan Thomas penalty; 3-0.

Gradually the Gloucester side did enjoy their own spell of territory, which resulted in another penalty kick 3-3. The score remained the same until half time.

The second period started much the same as the first with Ciren being wasteful when in possession, and again all they could manage was another penalty from Iwan Thomas 6-3.

It proved to be a dour affair with both defences cancelling out one another, and a free flowing rugby was never allowed to materialise.

The game was always going to be decided on a penalty kick, with Ciren giving two kickable penalties away to have victory snatched from the home side. FT 6-9.

Cirencester must re-group and improve in their next game against Hucclecote to stop their current losing streak.

Cirencester 2nd XV played Gordon League 2nd XV also at the Whiteway and won convincingly 22-5.

The last 2017 fixture for the 1xv sees Ciren travel to Hucclecote this weekend in Glos prem.
