  • SOUTH Cerney Cricket Club held their annual dinner and awards evening after one of their best seasons finishing well in League 1. The award for best batsman and bowler went to Garrick Chivers for his total 736 runs and 45 wickets. Chris Wearing was ‘Players’ Player’ and Rob Brown received the Adam Howes Trophy for being Clubman of the Year.
  • WITH the ever-increasing use of online shopping, Neighbourhood Watch members have received some very useful advice from the police on how to reduce the risk of fraud. To become a member of Neighbourhood Watch, contact Denise Doggett on bobdenise@waitrose.com or come to the village hall at 7.30pm on Tuesday, December 5, to meet your local police team and Denise.
  • SOUTH Cerney branch of Royal British Legion raised £8,207.64 by selling poppies in the lead up to Remembrance Day. 
  • ALTHOUGH recently it was stated in this column that two new members had been co-opted onto Parish Council, this did not happen as the Council has to go through various procedures before co-options can take place. These steps are being carried out and more details will follow in due course. Contact the clerk to the Council, Robert Cowley on 07938 202015, for detailed information.
  • COFFEEPOT will be on Saturday, December 9, from 10.30am in the United Church. 
  • THE Post Office will not be closing at Christmas, but the newsagent/ shop section will close on Saturday, December 23, with the Post Office counter remaining open.

  • A FAMILY Service takes place at St Peter’s church on Sunday, December 3, starting at 10am. Refreshments will be served after the service.
  • OUR new PC, Leah Davis, is holding a Police Neighbourhood Panel Meeting at South Cerney Village Hall on Tuesday, December 5, starting at 7.30pm. This is a combined meeting for Siddington, Cerney Wick, Coates, Ewen, Kemble, Poole Keynes, Preston, Sapperton, Somerford Keynes and South Cerney. Are there things you would like the Police to work on in your village? The meeting is open to all residents, giving you the opportunity to speak to Leah in an informal setting.

  • THE Inner Wheel of Cirencester’s ‘Soup Kitchen’ event is being held at the village hall today (Thursday, November 30) from noon to 2pm. Enjoy home-made soups followed by cheese and biscuits all for £5 per person. All proceeds to Cirencester Open Air Swimming Pool.   • PARISH Communion is at All Saints’ Church at 10am on Sunday, December 3.
  • CANTORES Chamber Choir are singing at the Carol Service at All Saints’ Church on Saturday, December 9 at 6pm. If you would like to help decorate the church for this event, please drop by the church from 10am on December 9. This year’s colour theme is red, green and silver – if you have any spare baubles, decorations or can spare some garden greenery it would be much appreciated. These can be dropped off at the church on either Friday, December 8 or on December 9.
  • DOWN Ampney Primary School will be holding their Christmas Celebration at All Saints’ Church on Wednesday, December 13 at 5.30 pm. Adam Clark, acting headteacher, the children, staff and governors extend an warm invitation to all villagers to join them.
