SWINDON Town have recalled midfielder Tom Smith and wide man James Brophy from their respective loan spells as injuries start to dig deep into David Flitcroft's squad reserves.

Teenage midfielder Smith and Brophy, who has made 40 appearances for the club, return from National League South Bath City and National League Leyton Orient respectively.

Smith had his loan spell at the Romans extended until January 6 earlier this month after a successful initial spell at Twerton Park.

Brophy joined the Londoners on a three-month loan deal in September in a bid to gain regular first-team football, having made six appearances for Town this season.

But Flitcroft revealed this afternoon that the duo were heading back to the County Ground, with Flitcroft's squad options shortening rapidly due to injury.

Amine Linganzi, who limped off in the 2-2 home draw against Chesterfield two weeks ago, will not be ready for tomorrow's League Two clash at home to Newport County, although the midfielder is expected to return next week.

Derby County loanee Timi Elsnik faces at least two months out after suffering a muscular injury at Yeovil last weekend, while left-back Chris Hussey's return from a groin injury has beenm shelved for the time being after he broke down in training.

Chippenham Town boss Mark Collier revealed earlier this week that striker Scott Twine, who is on loan at the Bluebirds from Swindon, had suffered a hamstring injury that will also see him out of action, while top scorer Luke Norris suffered an injury during the warm-up for Tuesday's 3-2 defeat at Grimsby.

Flitcroft said: "They have been training with us today, Smith has been training with us, Twine would have come on the other night, I am gutted that he has done his hamstring,”

“We called Brophy back and that was the purpose of the loan so it will be interesting to see now what kind of shape they’re in.

“Smith has probably played six games now and Brophy has probably played 10, so it is definitely the reason we got them out on loan.

“Now we can test whether that theory has worked.

“Smith has played game time and that was the purpose of it, it is difficult when you have a reserve league that doesn’t start until late October,

“It’s given the boys game time and we got them out on a time when the squad was full, now we have depleted in numbers and called them back so hopefully that has worked.”
