Chairman’s Challenge Cup
Bourton Rovers 7
Abingdon Town 4

FOUR goals from Josh Fielding helped Bourton Rovers to progress in the Chairman’s Cup against Abingdon Town who are currently flying high in the Division Two East of the Hellenic League.

Abingdon twice took the lead in the first half but Rovers fought back to keep the scores tied at two apiece thanks to strikes by Fielding and Danny Way.

Rovers had looked on top throughout the first half but Abingdon took their chances.

The second half continued in the same vein with Rovers in control but Jimmy Turner scored an excellent goal to give Abingdon the lead again.

Rovers reacted positively, playing some good football and were rewarded when Fielding scored two quick goals to put the hosts in front for the first time during the game.

Rovers continued to create a number of good chances but were wasteful in front of goal.

Last season's top goalscorer Adam Webley then entered the game and found the back of the net almost straight away.

Both Fielding and Webley scored one more goal each with Abingdon adding a further consolation strike.

The final score was 7-4 and both the players and spectators were happy to get back into the dry after the game.

ROVERS had been knocked out of the Bluefin Hellenic Challenge Cup the previous Tuesday – after nearly three weeks without a fixture – when throwing away a two-goal lead to lose 5-2 at Didcot Town Reserves.

Didcot fielded a number of first team players, however, Rovers missed several chances to put the game to bed by half-time.

The goalscorers were Josh Fielding and Dan Smith.

Next up for Bourton Rovers is a County Cup match at Rissington Road on Saturday (2pm kick-off) against Bishops Cleeve Development.

Manager Scott Powles rates the game a massive challenge for his players against an in-form team with quality players throughout.
