A CHIPPY in Cirencester is adding its voice to a campaign to champion the humble mushy pea.

Malt and Anchor on Castle Street is joining other fish and chip shops across the country to demand that mushy peas are given the respect they deserve by introducing their very own national day.

The idea all began when Pete Fraser of Harbour Lights fish and chips in Falmouth joined forces with wholesaler Friars Pride to launch the first ever International Mushy Pea Day today, November 10.

Malt and Anchor have mushy peas with a difference on the menu, as they are combined with ham hock and leek.

Director Dan Lafford said: “They are one of the most talked about things at the restaurant so we are definitely behind International Mushy Pea day.

“Peas are a great and often under rated and versatile vegetable and the perfect side dish to fish and chips.”

Today's International Mushy Pea Day is an opportunity to turn the spotlight locally, nationally and internationally.

If you love mushy peas, you can join in with international mushy pea day by using the #mushypeaday hashtag on Facebook and Instagram.
