A Great Book Sale was held in Bishops Castle Town Hall to raise funds for the Hall’s charitable trust.

The sale that takes place every autumn included not only the sale of books but also of DVDs and CDs.

Bishops Castle Town Hall runs events throughout the year including monthly sales and exhibitions to enable artists from south Shropshire to showcase and to sell their work.

The sale that took place over two days raised money for the charitable Trust that runs the facility for the benefit of the town.

It is also used regularly for concerts, plays and other entertainment for people from the town and the surrounding area.

The Town Hall is also the home of the Bishops Castle Town Council who hold their monthly meetings at the venue.

Bishop’s Castle Town Hall Trust is a charity and company limited by guarantee set up in 2012 as the organisation to manage the Town Hall following the 2013 renovations.

The Trust is a partnership between building owners Bishop’s Castle Town Council; the House on Crutches Museum Collection Trust who operate Bishop’s Castle Heritage Resource Centre; and Bishop’s Castle Tourism Community Interest Company who exist to represent and support the local tourism businesses in the area.

The Town Hall dates back 250 years but a survey several years ago revealled that the building needed work and so a major renovation project was launched.

After many years and many attempts to secure major grants the Town Council was successful in securing £676,800 from Heritage Lottery Fund. This together with awards from the Pilgrim Trust, Shropshire Council, Shropshire Hills Leader Programme and a major local fundraising campaign enabled the Council to finally take forward this important work that was finally completed in 2014. .
