THE Mayor of Cirencester launched this year’s Poppy Appeal outside the Parish Church alongside members of the town’s Royal British Legion (RBL).

Mayor Nigel Robbins was joined outside the Church of St John the Baptist this afternoon by Cirencester RBL chairman Alan Howe and chairwoman Eileen Chapman, as well as other members.

Cllr Robbins said: “I would like to thank the RBL for their work preparing us once again for the Remembrance Day and helping us to remember the bravery and the services of those who have served us in the last few wars and subsequently.

“Without them we wouldn’t be here today, so thank you and keep up the good work,” he added.

Other members present included Alan McQuillin, who was awarded the Légion d'honneur for his services during the Second World War, where he fought in Normandy.
