  • NEXT Sunday, October 15, Paws on Patrol team members including members of the police will be at the Upper Up car park from 10am when anyone interested in seeing what this new group can offer to dog owners in this parish is invited to attend. Paws on Patrol is designed to build a community spirit where dog walkers can contribute towards the protection of their neighbourhood.
  • SOUTH Cerney Players Autumn production of ‘Allo ‘Allo’ will be held in the village hall at the end of November with tickets already on sale either at the Post Office in Clarks Hay or ticketsource.co.uk/southcerneyplayers This promises to be a very popular event and it is expected that tickets will be sold very quickly so buy yours now to avoid being disappointed. 
  • SOUTH Cerney Bowls Club finished the season somewhat earlier than usual this year to enable extensive improvement works to be completed on the playing surface before the winter weather set in. Specialist green contractors have now completed their task and by next season the green should be in excellent condition. 
  • LAST Friday the Quiz Night, organised by Joan Townsend and her team, raised £546 for the Fire Fighter’s Fund as a thank you to every member of that service and in particular to those who fought the Grenfell Tower conflagration.
  • IT IS understood that members of South Cerney Trust have been successful in their appeal to have footpaths across Claymeadow fields adopted as Public Rights of Way. These are in addition to the two which have been on the definitive map for many years.
  • THE Flower Show made a good profit and is in a position to share some of it with other local groups. Requests of up to £100 will be considered at the AGM on November 22 in the village hall.   • TONIGHT Thursday, October 5, the Gardening Club meets in the village hall with Duncan Coombs speaking on Barks, Stems and Evergreens for the Winter Garden. New members are always welcomed. Contact Roger Edgar 861922 or rse35sc@gmail.com

  • A SONGS of Praise service takes place at St Peter’s Church on Sunday, October 8, starting at 6pm.
  • SIDDINGTON Evergreen Club meets on Tuesday, October 10 at 2.30pm in the Elizabeth Way Community Room. This month’s meeting is a little different, as everyone, irrespective of age, is invited to come along to enjoy Sassi Gifts, a mobile gift shop. They will be in the Community Room between 2.30-3.30pm displaying good quality, reasonably priced gifts – a good opportunity to do some Christmas shopping.
  • THE Parish Council also meets on Tuesday, at 7.30pm in the Village Hall Committee Room. Siddington residents are welcome to attend.

  • JANET and Ray Singleton would like to thank the six riders from Down Ampney who took part in the annual Ride and Stride on September 9 and also the 12 villagers who took time out to help meet and greet those who visited All Saints’ Church as part of the Ride and Stride circuit. The total raised should be announced in the November Down Ampney News.
  • DOWN Ampney Gardening Club enjoyed an amusing, interactive talk from David Cropp on Defensive Gardening at a time of Climate Change on Thursday, September 21. Club members came away with advice to throw away gardening magazines, not to kill pests and to take cuttings of precious plants.  Bob Goode won the competition for the best cactus. The next meeting is on October 19 at 7.30 pm in the village hall.  The speaker is Lynda Warren who will talk about Nature’s Poisoners.  The competition is: your own photograph of a poisonous plant.
  • VILLAGERS can read ‘The Down Amberley Deception’  by ‘The Spider’ - a tale of Knights Templars, ancient tunnels, hidden treasure and intrigue, which is being published in monthly instalments in the Down Ampney News. The October instalment sets the scene and is available now.  
  • PARISH Communion for Harvest will be held at 10am on Sunday, October 8 in Driffield.
