  • OCTOBER is the beginning of the 100 Club year; if you would like to take part, please put £10 in an envelope, with your details, and leave it at the village shop. Each year roughly £500 goes out in prizes with £500 towards something in the village.
  • IT IS hoped to once again assemble a choir to lead the carols at the carol service on December 16. This will not entail a huge commitment, just two or three rehearsals beforehand.   • MOTHERS’ Union meets on October 12, at 10am in Hankerton Church. There will be a talk from Jill Wilding, who organises a team in Bristol’s Children’s Hospital that brings friendship to parents with seriously ill children. Details from Jane Gibbs on 01666 577282.
  • THE Parish Council meets on October 12, at 7pm in The Rest, Oaksey Village Hall; all are welcome.
  • THERE was an excellent turn out to the Richard Hiscock memorial charity cricket match on September 3. So far £1,371.79 has been raised, including donations and sponsorship, which will be divided between Prostate Cancer UK and Chance to Shine.
  • THANKS to those who supported this year’s scarecrow event; £757 was handed to the Fete Fund for distribution. 
  • CONGRATULATIONS to Oaksey School pupils, Emily Hutchinson, Reuben and Lottie Landon, Sofia Makepeace, Arthur Richards, and Anastasia Terry, who completed the Summer Reading Challenge with Malmesbury Library.

  • THE Macmillan coffee morning held in Ewen last Friday at the the home of Pat and Tony Ferris raised £940. Pat and Tony thanks those who helped to make the morning a wonderful community event.
  • POOLE Keynes Friday club presents Hidden Figures tomorrow. 7.30pm. Film starts at 8pm. Members can bring along guests for the entrance charge of £3.50. Call Judith as seating is limited on 770301. 
  • TOMORROW (Friday) from 2pm Kemble Church flower ladies will decorate All Saints ready for the Harvest Service on Sunday, which takes place at 9.30am. This is following the harvest supper which is being held in Kemble Village Hall on Saturday evening. Last minute tickets available from Pat and Tony on 770756. The Harvest auction will be held during the supper evening on Saturday in Kemble Village Hall. Donations for auction appreciated. Proceeds to the Disaster Emergency fund. Other services on Sunday are Holy Communion in Poole Keynes at 9.30am. Somerford Keynes will hold its Harvest Festival at 4pm followed by a supper at  5.30pm. £7 per adult and £3.50 for children under 16years. Contact Muriel on 861614 or Sandy on 861658. 
  • THIS Saturday at 7pm the Wessex Male Choir  will be in The Forum Hall, Cirencester Baptist church to help both Kemble and South Cerney poppy appeal organisers raise money for the annual appeal. The Aber Valley choir cannot come along now, but a full concert will still take place. £10 tickets can be purchased; please contact Pat on 770385 or pay on the door.
  • POOLE Keynes Late Late Fete raised just over £2000. Due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Irma in the days leading up to the fete, it was decided to share profits with the victims. 
  • THE Coffee Stop in Kemble Village Hall is open from 10 until 11.30am on Monday. £1 per person. 
  • THIS Monday, Somerford Keynes Parish History Group invites everyone to an illustrated talk entitled The Making of the Ridgeway Environment by Eric Jones co-author of ‘Middle Ridgeway.’ Entrance is £2 to include a glass of wine. There will also be village history items to browse from 7.10pm, with the talk commencing at 7.30pm. 
  • YVONNE Binks from Kemble will be run the Bournemouth Marathon this Sunday in aid of the Rotary Club of Cirencester. Some of the money will buy equipment for the Hartbury Ward (cardiac) in Cheltenham General Hospital. Ring Yvonne on 770495.
