  • WHELFORD Social Club have live music in the Whelford Village Hall this Saturday, September 30, between 8pm and midnight.
  • KEMPSFORD Football and Youth Club meet every Wednesday from 6 to 7.30pm in the village hall. It is open to all parish residents from seven-years-old upwards. For more information text Rosemary on 07765 258839.
  • CHURCH services for Sunday, October 1 are: Morning Worship at Castle Eaton led by A.Jones at 9.30am; Said Holy Communion Service at Whelford at 9am led by Rev Lynn Hayler and Harvest Festival at 11am at Kempsford led by Rev Lynn Hayler, followed by a Bring and Share Lunch in the village hall to which all are welcome.

  • THE Gladman Developments planning appeal relating to 92 dwellings (including up to 50 percent affordable housing), public open space and children’s play area and associated works on land parcel west of Horcott Road has been dismissed by the Secretary of State and permission has been refused.   • THE Fairford, Faringdon, Filkins and Burford 69th Ploughing Championships and Country Show is on Saturday, September 30 at Southrop Farm, Hambidge Lane, Lechlade GL7 3EA. Over 100 ploughing entries (tractors, steam and horse) with ploughing will start soon after 9am and continue until early afternoon.   • JAM (Jesus and Me) Club is on Sunday, October 1 at 10am in St Mary’s Church, Fairford. Stories, craft and fun.
  • THE Knit & Knatter Group will meet on Tuesday, October 3 between 2.30-4.30pm in Fairford Library. A free group for people of all ages and abilities, who want to do some knitting or crocheting and have a chat with old and new friends over tea and coffee. Children are welcome.   • FAIRFORD Firecrackers WI meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 7.30pm in the Palmer Hall. The next meeting will be Wednesday, October 4 for the Harvest Supper and Quiz. Visitors are welcome. Contact Jean Moulden on 01285 713308 for details.
  • MINI Praise at St Mary’s Church, Fairford on Thursday, October 5 at 1.45pm for pre-schoolers and their carers. A lovely little free session with stories, songs, crafts, and snacks.
  • COMMUNITY First Responders (CFR) are volunteers who support their local community by attending emergency calls ahead of an ambulance. No previous medical training is needed to become a CFR. Before appointment and issue of equipment, volunteers will be expected to have completed an enhanced DBS check and will receive training, including a day ‘on shift’ with a crew. The local group, which covers an area from Lechlade through Fairford to Kempsford and the surrounding areas, meet monthly.   • A HEARING for the Fairford Neighbourhood Plan took place on Thursday, September 14. The examiner invited Fairford Town Council, Cotswold District Council and specific developers to discuss and clarify specific areas of the Neighbourhood Plan. Following this meeting, the examiner will issue his report on the plan. The expected timetable, which could be subject to change, is: Release of fact checking draft report by September 22; Release of final report by September 29; CDC’s decision on the report by November 3; Date of referendum, while subject to the timing of earlier events, currently likely to be December 7.

  • THE WI will meet on Tuesday, October 3, in the Lechlade Baptist Church, Sherborne Street to learn about the history of pub signs with Angela Panrucker. The WI meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 for 7.30pm and visitors and new members are always welcome at meetings and activities. Call 01367 252461 or 01367 252362 for information.
  • IF YOU have an hour a week to spare you may like to consider spending it in the company of somebody who would really appreciate your time. ‘People For You’ is a befriending service for older people of Lechlade, Fairford and the surrounding area. Full training is provided together with an opportunity to meet fellow volunteers ad forge new friendships. Alternatively, if you feel that the service might be of interest to you or a family member or friend do get in touch.
