A 39-YEAR-old man has been arrested in relation to a vicious attack on a young woman in Cirencester.

The incident happened at 3.15am on Sunday, August 6. The woman, 29, was punched from behind and grabbed around the neck as she was walking into Oaklands in Chesterton.

She had been approached by the man, who asked her if she knew of a taxi firm, as she was walking along Somerford Road.

Police arrested the man from the Bristol area after forensic studies into traces of DNA obtained from the woman who scratched her attacker with sufficient force to draw blood.

She dropped her handbag as she made her escape.
