SWINDON Robins cruised to their 14th consecutive win in a hastily rearranged fixture with Somerset Rebels on Thursday night despite missing the side’s two regular reserves.

A makeshift Somerset side could provide only three heat winners against the league leaders all night, two of which came from lively guest reserve Kevin Doolan.

Nick Morris top-scored for Swindon with 14 points and was denied a five-ride maximum by Rebels skipper Richard Lawson in the final race of the evening.

Swindon opened with an easy 5-1 through Jason Doyle and Adam Ellis then suffered a reverse in heat two as Doolan and Ashley Morris overcame Swindon's stand-in reserves Richard Hall and Matt Williamson, the latter riding Blunsdon for the first time.

This pair looked vulnerable in the opener but from then on put on a decent show, although most of Hall's contribution came from Somerset’s engine problems with Eddie Kennett suffering twice when in good positions.

Williamson had the crowd cheering despite Doolan getting the better of him late on as it looked as if the Manchester-based rider was about to follow David Bellego home for a heat 14 five-one.

Tobiasz Musielak had three paid wins but fell in his second ride when desperately trying to get out of fourth place, while Bellego had a paid 12 points from five rides.

We even saw the unusual sight of skipper Jason Doyle coming in third on one race as Lawson got the better of him in race 10, with Ellis getting the heat win, his final contribution to a satisfying paid nine.

Late on in the contest Swindon kept adding to their lead with five 4-2s and a 5-1 as the side easily won 57-35.
