Swindon Robins 48
King's Lynn Stars 41

SWINDON Robins extended their winning run to 13 matches with an somewhat unconvincing 48-41 success against a fighting King’s Lynn Stars in Monday’s televised clash in front of a huge crowd at the Abbey.

Skipper Jason Doyle was unbeaten once again with a 12-point maximum but several of his team-mates dropped unnecessary points and the meeting suffered from a number of starting problems, leaving both riders and the crowd frustrated.

David Bellego was excluded in his first race then suffered engine problems in race six before powering to three wins including heat 15, although in that race Nick Morris seemed unhappy with his fellow Robin's tactics as both home riders and King’s Lynn’s Michael Palm Toft tangled on the second bend of lap one.

Morris eventually finished last in that heat and words were exchanged after the race.

Morris also found himself overtaken in heat 13 by Tomas H Jonasson after the home pairing looked set for a 5-1 Adam Ellis, replacing Bradley Wilson-Dean in the top five, was in the thick of the action and partnered Doyle to the first home 5-1 of the match which put Swindon in front after the Stars pulled level in the previous race.

A 4-2 in race 10 put Swindon nine points up and then King’s Lynn edged back into the match with a 5-1 of their own as Wilson-Dean fell with Tobiasz Musielak, for once, struggling after a poor start.

The victory was secured in heat 14 as Bellego took the race win while Wilson-Dean pulled out with fuel line problems.

Swindon boss Alun Rossiter said: “It wasn’t our cleanest performance, we had a few things go wrong and there were a few decisions with the starts which rankled with me a bit. But in the end we won it comfortably enough."

Robins return to action on Thursday evening when Somerset visit the Abbey in a re-arranged fixture before a home double header on Monday against Leicester and Somerset with a 4pm start.
