Wiltshire Senior League
Purton 3
Wroughton 2
AFTER their opening defeat away at Melksham Town Reserves, Purton bounced back with a 3-2 home win over last season's league champions Wroughton, writes Alan Eastwood.
This was an excellent showing by the Reds, pleasing their new management team of Neil Lee and Liam Lewis who have been working hard to get a new team in place after all last season's players had left following Purton's departure from the Hellenic League due to ground grading requirements.
Purton went ahead on 14 minutes after a great solo run and finish by Rob Lincoln only for the visitors to draw level on 36 minutes with a much-disputed penalty.
Both sides had chances just before the break which were saved by the keepers.
Purton regained the lead midway through the second half when a Chris Avery spot kick was half-saved by the keeper allowing Manuel Mesas to follow up and head home.
Wroughton then hit back with 10 minutes to go and levelled but Purton were not to be denied and a long ball over the Wroughton defence saw Rob Lincoln break clear and score with a rasping left foot shot to give Purton their win.
