THORNBURY Picture House is holding a free screening of Oscar winning movie Cinema Paradiso on September 8.

Cinema Paradiso celebrates the magic of film while recounting the story of a young boy's fascination with cinema and his relationship with a kindly projectionist.

The Italian film, directed by Giuseppe Tornatore, takes place in Sicily, has sub-titles and features a magnificent music score by Ennio Morricone.

7.30pm. Thornbury's Armstrong Hall. Admission free.

Thornbury Picture House regular season of 11 films in the Cossham Hall starts on September 29 with The Olive Tree, a family tale of love and loss and the significance of an ancient olive tree.

October 20 sees an exclusive personal archive of the famed Hollywood actor Marlon Brando.

The ancient Malian city of Timbuktu is featured on November 17 when Islamic extremists attempt to change the city's accepted traditions.

2017 ends on December 8 with The Crow's Egg, the story of two young Indian brothers with aspirations illustrating their attempts to make their dreams come true.
