CIRENCESTER’s Jack Grover won the 2017 Sutton Winson Trophy on Sunday, a national tournament for under 18’s across England.

The 18-year-old, who competes for Cirencester Bowling Club, defeated Lincolnshire’s Ruby Hill on an extra end in Sunday’s Final at the National Bowls Field in Lemmington Spa.

Grover reached the final with a quarter-final victory over 2015 winner Tom Holmes from Herefordshire, followed by a semi-final victory over Suffolk’s Kyle Leeks.

The event started out with 132 competitors and Grover came through seven rounds to be crowned the overall champion.

He will now represent England at the British Isles Bowls Council U18 Singles Championship at Victoria Park, Royal Leamington Spa in June 2018.

Having studied at Marling School Stroud, Grover is currently awaiting his A level results later and is looking to go and study at either Newcastle University or Heriot Watt, Edinburgh to develop his language skills.

To further his spoken Spanish, he is about to embark as a volunteer in Santiago Chile from September for a period of six months, working with under-privileged children, before taking up University studies.
