PLANS for a new 62-home development in Kempsford will turn the village into a "commuter corridor" according to one disgruntled resident.

Around 30 angry residents descended on the village hall on Tuesday evening for a public meeting in relation to the plans to build on land off The Knoll on Whelford Road.

The meeting had been called to give councillors and representatives from development firm JA Pye (Oxford) Ltd the chance to discuss the section 106 agreement to be brought into effect should the development be granted.

The application was submitted on May 30, after a public consultation period, held between March 30 and April 13, had attracted around 75 letters of objection.

Objectors argued the village cannot sustain a large scale development, with some at the meeting saying they are now looking to move out of the village.

Speaking at the meeting, resident Colin South said the developer's planning statement "is a poor cut and paste exercise" with "not one parishioner supporting this application".

He described the consultation process as "flawed" with a leaflet "not sent to all the houses" .

He also believed the traffic consultation report was inaccurate, including details of "an emergency access road that will put our children in extreme danger if they use that route to school".

The proposed development includes 50 per cent affordable homes, but Mr South said "it's not about affordable housing, it's about greed of developers and landowners".

"Nothing you can offer will compensate us for the damage this development will do to this village, so please take your master plan back across the border to Oxfordshire and leave us alone," he added.

A decision will be made on the application by Cotswold District Council later this year.
