THE 2017 Minety Tennis Club Open Mixed tennis tournament was again run in conjunction with Macmillan Didmarton committee.
Attracting 80 players, the tournament was played on 10 private courts in and around Minety.
The morning rain showers didn’t deter the competitors who had a real treat visiting some beautiful private courts and serving up some high quality tennis.
After lunch, the tennis got serious with the winners from the morning handicapped session being pitted against each other in the Championship tournament and those less successful going through to the Plate tournament. Semi-finals and finals were held at the Minety Tennis Club courts.
Camilla Klemme and Peter Dowdswell were awarded the Ruth Jenner Cup as winners of the Championship group with Rachana Patel and Alan Hunt as runners-up.
Rachel Snowball and George Brooks were awarded the D&J Sports Plate with runners-up Judy and Brett Maxfield.
Huge thanks go to our sponsors and all of the helpers from Macmillan and the club as well as the tennis hosts who kindly donated their courts for the day. The whole event was masterminded and led by Andy Dickinson with support from Linda Klemme from Macmillan. The whole event raised just under £4,500.
