THE inquest has opened into the death of a man who died after his car fell several metres from a busy road bridge into the carriageway below.

Dimitrios Doxianidis, 33, from Kingshurst Road, Northfield, Birmingham, died on Friday morning when his blue Vauxhall Corsa left the offside lane of the northbound A417, near Cirencester.

The inquest, which opened on Wednesday and has been adjourned until November 28, heard he died of multiple injuries.

The accident happened at around 7am, near to the quarry junction when the car left the northbound carriageway and crashed onto the southbound carriageway.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Roads in the area were closed for about five hours to allow collision investigators to work.

Flowers and tributes have been left at the scene.

Cotswold Police Sergeant Garrett Gloyn called the incident very sad and confirmed that there was only one vehicle involved.

Police would like to hear from witnesses or anyone who saw the vehicle before the incident .
