  • A FIVE star rating for hygiene has been awarded to the Village Hall Cafe. There is no cafe in August; the next one will be on September 14.
  • CHURCH services at St Mary’s Kempsford and St Anne’s Whelford now start at 9.30am. This Sunday, July 30, the service is at Whelford led by Revd John Partington.
  • ADVENTURE Camp is from Wednesday, August 30 to Friday, September 1. It is absolutely free to local children aged 8-15. This will be led by Revd Tim Hastie-Smith plus a team from Scripture Union and will involve camping, swimming, river sports, games, drama, craft and other activities. If your child does not want to camp, they can come for a shorter time. A number of the events are taking place in the Kempsford/Whelford area.   • CRICKET Club Fixture for this Sunday, July 30th July is a home match against Swindon United Churches with a 2pm start.
  • MANY questions about the Pye Homes Development were asked at the Parish Council Meeting. It was agreed that the proposed 62 more houses in a small village is unsustainable. Details of the application can be seen at: publicaccess.cotswold.gov.uk/online-applications/ and we were urged to send in our own comments to this website or visit the CDC Offices.

  • THE next meeting of Fairford & Lechlade Business Club is tonight (Thursday) at 7pm for 7.30pm. Members will enjoy a trip down the Thames from The Trout Inn Lechlade to Buscot courtesy of Cotswold Boat Hire. Refreshments and fun!   • THE next meeting of the Fairford University of the Third Age (U3A) is on Tuesday, August 1 and is an outdoor picnic event at Bowmoor Lake, GL7 3DT. Musical entertainment provided. Please bring your own picnic. If wet, it will be in Bowmoor Clubhouse.
  • THE Knit & Knatter Group meet on the first Tuesday of each month between 2.30-4.30pm in Fairford Library. A free group for people of all ages and abilities, who want to do some knitting or crocheting and have a chat. Tea and coffee. Children welcome. The next meeting is on Tuesday, August 1.   • MINI Praise at St Mary’s Church, Fairford on Thursday,  August 3 at 1.45pm for pre-schoolers and their carers. Free session with stories, songs, crafts, and snacks.

  • A TWO-day Wired Floral Design workshop taught by leading master florist will be held on Saturday, July 29 and Sunday, July 30 between 10am and 4pm each day at Fairford Community Centre.   • FUND raising for the rebuilding of the Memorial Hall has reached £127,000 thanks to everyone’s great efforts and generosity. The updated town tourist guide and map is now on display and thanks to kind businesses another £1,000 has been added to the funds. Future events include the sale of raffle tickets at the Garden Centre throughout July, the last date being this Sunday from 10.30am to 12.30pm. The History Society will be giving a guided tour around the town on August 5 at 2.30pm, no tickets – just donations please. 
  • THERE is still an opportunity to purchase digital dog photos from the extravaganza weekend. There is at least one picture of every dog which entered the dog show.   • THE town council is keen to grow a team of trained Speed Watch volunteers, especially from the residents in Fairford Road/Downington and Burford Road areas. Full training, lasting about two hours, will be provided by the Road Safety Partnership Team (Gloucestershire Police) and is usually at Cirencester Police Station.
