  • DESPITE the terrible wet weather last weekend, many turned out to follow the Scarecrow Trail around the village to see many colourful homemade figures, all of the theme of pop music. Outside the entrance to the Old George Inn car park sat Cliff Richard while Mick Jagger sheltered from the elements in a recess of the United Church. A lonely Tina Turner was to be found in the orchard by the bowls club off Bow Wow. Many hardy folk walked the entire trail on the Saturday or Sunday.
  • ANN Edwards Church of England Primary School needs some new governors. While no previous experience is required applicants should have a keen interest in the success of the school, time to spare, confidence to ask questions and the ability to work as a member of a team. For more information go to clerk@annedwardsprimary.co.uk
  • CERNEY will be very busy again at the end of next week with both the South Cerney Flower Show on Saturday and Sunday in the Village Hall and the Gloucestershire Vintage and Country Extravaganza on the South Cerney Airfield from Friday to Sunday. The event attracts large crowds and there is usually a one-way traffic system to and from the car park entrance along Northmoor Lane. To reduce congestion there will be free transport in vintage buses to and from Kemble station and Cirencester. The service from Kemble will also stop for passengers at all regular bus stops along the route in Cerney village.

  • RESIDENTS are reminded that now is the time to be thinking about entries for the ‘Grow and Show’ on September 3. There are various categories covering vegetables, flowers, fruit, cookery and handicrafts and a special category for children’s entries, so there’s something for everyone. Entry forms, which were included in the July edition of the Village News, may be handed in at the shop/post office with the appropriate entry fee. Children’s entries are free.
