SGB Premiership
Swindon Robins 57
Rye House Rockets 33

SEVEN days is a long time in speedway – at least for the Swindon Robins.

The previous Thursday the side had battled hard to beat Belle Vue when most felt that a defeat was on the cards but then followed three away wins including a huge victory at Poole.

Twenty fours later Alun Rossiter's made it seven wins in a row with a 57-33 triumph against an at-times poor Rye House side to move to third in the table and remove the gloom and doom of a few weeks ago.

The team took the lead when reserves Adam Ellis and Zach Wajtknecht scored maximum points in race two after Stuart Robson’s starting offence put him on the 15-yard start line.

Bradley Wilson-Dean’s third place in heat three as David Bellego took the flag set the scene as the Robins gradually increased their lead to go 32-16 up after eight races.

The Rockets’ first heat advantage in race nine owed much to luck as Bellego, in second place, pulled up with engine failure as Scott Nicholls took the victory.

A home 5-1 in the next race followed and the side just needed a point in heat 13 for the victory. Unsurprisingly Jason Doyle completed what must have been one of his easiest maximums as he led home Nick Morris, himself victorious twice earlier in the meeting.

New signing Tobiasz Musielak struggled early on but paid wins in his final two races helped while Bellego, the find of the season, in the end may well be disappointed with his 11 points given his misfortune in the ninth race.

Wilson-Dean worked hard for his paid eight points. Reserve Ellis suffered the indignity of being thrown out of heat 11 after earning the referee’s wrath over his starting but his five points and the same score from Wajtknecht all helped.

Nicholls deserves praise for triumphing in a titanic final heat as he Chris Harris, Bellego and Morris battled throughout with nothing at stake; the former Robin took the three points on the last lap.

Poole are at Blunsdon on Thursday evening and hopefully another good crowd will watch this derby.

Poole have already sacked Krzysztof Kasprzak following their humiliation against Swindon this week and replaced him with Eddie Kennett who was surprisingly released by Rye House recently.
