MEDICAL charity Cobalt will be attending the Cancer Research Relay for Life in Cirencester.
The charity will be at the event on Saturday, July 29 to raise awareness about how to reduce the risk of developing cancer through healthy lifestyle choices, by attending national cancer screening programmes and by getting symptoms or changes to your body checked early.
Fundraising teams from local communities will join the relay to take turns walking round the track to show cancer never sleeps.
Lauren Waldron, Cancer Awareness Chair of Cirencester Relay for Life said: "I will be manning a Curious about Cancer area at the event. I have invited Cobalt’s cancer prevention team, Sue and Aileen to talk about measures people can take to prevent cancer and raise awareness of how early detection can improve outcomes.
"Over the weekend we have 33 teams taking part because they have lost someone and are doing it in remembrance or because someone they know is currently battling with cancer."
Sue White, cancer prevention coordinator at Cobalt said: "We are delighted to have been invited to attend.
"We will be talking to people at the Relay for Life about how leading healthy lifestyles, not smoking, keeping a healthy bodyweight and taking regular exercise amongst other measures can all help reduce the risk of cancer."
Cobalt are currently raising money to buy a new MRI scanner for their imaging centre in Cheltenham.
As well as diagnostic imaging for over 60,000 patients, the charity provides research, training and education for medical professionals to learn more about the latest techniques and advancements and to share knowledge and best practice, improving care for patients.
Cobalt’s cancer prevention team visit schools, colleges, businesses, social clubs and community groups within the Three Counties of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire, completely free of charge.
