FILM crews will be returning to Northleach later this year with a second series of critically-acclaimed mockumentary This Country having been ordered by the BBC.

The comedy, written by and starring Cirencester siblings Daisy and Charlie Cooper, launched in February on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer, before earning a slot on BBC One.

It has had four million iPlayer requests to date.

A statement from the talented pair, who attended Deer Park School and undertook their first-ever press interview with the Standard, said they were “beyond thrilled”.

“We are beyond thrilled to have a second series.

“We wrote something else in case this wasn’t recommissioned which ended up being exactly the same plot as the BBC drama Life on Mars.

“So this second series is a godsend really as we can’t do anything else,” they joked.

Shane Allen, the BBC’s controller of comedy commissioning, said: “It’s been a pure joy to see Daisy and Charlie get the recognition their talents deserve with this show.

“It has been an instant hit with the audience and they’ve got cracking ideas for the series ahead.”

Chris Sussman, head of comedy at BBC Studios, said: “‘We’re thrilled to get the chance to make more episodes of This Country, and see what Kerry and Kurtan have been up to since we last left them.

“It’s one of my favourite new comedies of recent years,” he added.

Damian Kavanagh, controller BBC Three, said: “I’m delighted we’re going back to the Cotswolds to catch up with the latest antics from Kerry and Kurtan.

"Series one was a huge hit with the BBC Three audience and we are excited to bring them back for more.”

Daisy and Charlie will be appearing live at The Corn Hall in Cirencester on October 14 for This Country Rocks the Cotswolds, to raise money for local charity Signpost.

The duo will be discussing their show and other projects live on stage, alongside fellow cast and crew.
