A GYM in Cirencester will close at the end of the week after 20 years.

Active4Less on Dyer Street will shut its doors for the final time on Sunday (July 23), with an application to convert the space into apartments approved by the council in March.

Simone Price has run the gym, formally Simone’s Health Club, for 16 years, which is also the home of Cirencester Amateur Boxing Club.

In a notice given to members, it said, following the closure, “we hope to continue our fitness consultancy, nutritional and personal training service connected to your membership” until July 31.

“New members and business are welcomed at a reduced rate as there will be a limited service and timeframe,” it said.

The gym’s equipment is up for sale to anyone interested, while managing firm Simone’s Health Club Ltd is also on the market.

Members are encouraged to speak to the gym’s trainers about personal training as well as transitional workouts.

“As a team, business and facility, we are celebrating that we have worked together well and have kept Cirencester healthier for 20 years,” said the statement.

Simone said she would like to thank all of her customers and staff who have been associated with the gym over the years.

The facility was used by a number of different clubs and groups, while the American Equestrian team trained there during the Olympic Games in 2012.

Parcland Ltd submitted the application to build six apartments to Cotswold District Council in December.

The planned six flats will each have one parking space around the back of the building.
