THE retiring deputy head of Hatherop Castle School was treated to a surprise leaving party, having worked at the school for 28 years.
Pupils and teachers of the Cirencester independent school honoured Jenny Lay with a surprise afternoon tea party last week to say one last farewell.
Colleagues old and current, along with many parents of the children and Jenny’s family enjoyed themselves with songs sung from the Senior Chapel Choir.
Jenny started as an A-Level Geography teacher at the school in 1989, when it was still a girls senior school.
In 1992 she switched to teaching Year 4 after Hatherop Castle became a preparatory school.
Then, in June 1993 she became deputy head and has been in that role ever since.
At the leaving party, one of the children said: “Every school needs a Mrs Lay!”
