WITH three broken bones in a foot, as well as three metal plates and 14 screws as a result of an injury in Poland six days earlier, most of us would take the weight off an injured foot in an easy chair – but not Jason Doyle.

The Swindon Robins skipper was determined to take his place in the fifth Grand Prix of the season in Horsens, Denmark on Saturday and seeing him walking around the pits with a walking stick must have given his rivals increased optimism.

In fact, the Australian continued his record of reaching every final this season and also pulled level with series leader Patryk Dudek.

The two of them are beginning to move away from their rivals although former Robin Maciej Janowski improved his chances by winning the final ahead of Russian Emil Sayfutdinov, Dudek and Doyle.

Doyle drew gate one in the final and immediately went the shortest way round turn one. But Janowski chose the same route and got there first, slowing Doyle down. He did get up to third but Dudek, using the very fast outside line, overtook him.

Doyle top-scored over the qualifying 20 races which helped him to outscore Dudek by a point on the night and tie for the lead in the series standings.

An indication of the injured Doyle's raw courage came in the semi-final when he went through the smallest of gaps to move Matej Zagar aside and take a further race win which gave him first pick of gates for the final.

The series now takes a month’s break with the World Cup starting at King’s Lynn on Saturday when Britain, led by Swindon manager Alun Rossiter, take on Australia, the Czech Republic and USA.

Elsewhere Swindon's Adam Ellis has been named as one of the meeting reserves for the British GP.

The anticipated signing of 2016 Robin Rohan Tungate did not happen as he moved instead to Belle Vue, who released Justin Sedgmen to make way for Tungate.

Had it not been for Sedgmen’s racing in the Championship for Ipswich on Thursdays perhaps he would have been an adequate replacement the Swindon side needs.

It will be interesting to see how Tungate is welcomed when the Aces visit Blunsdon on July 13.
