WITH news dominated in the past week by a horrific blaze in London, to take a phone call from someone saying there is a fire at a care home in Cirencester, left a very uneasy feeling in the pit of the stomach at first.

Mercifully, the incident, despite residents being evacuated, was not majorly serious but it brings up again how grateful we should be to our fantastic emergency services.

The London Fire Brigade has rightly been praised to the hilt for the bravery of its crews working at Grenfell Tower and it was their Gloucestershire counterparts who ensured residents were safe at Watermoor House on Tuesday.

County firefighters have also been washing cars this week to fundraise for the survivors of the tower blaze, raising thousands of pounds in the process.

They deserve our unremitting thanks and support.

A song featuring various artists and backed by Simon Cowell has been released this week to raise money for the families of the tower victims.

All of the money will go those who need it most.
