CHARLIE GRIFFIN has signed a 20-goal-a-season striker who he thinks will help Cirencester Town bounce straight back to the Southern Premier division.

Ben Whitehead is switching from Didcot Town to join up again with strike partner Alan Griffin; they were on the books together at Chippenham Town.

Last season 23-year-old Whitehead scored 22 goals in the Southern League Div One South & West for Didcot as well as a further four in cup competitions.

Griffin said: “I remember watching Ben play for Chippenham at Redditch at the end of the season before last when the Bluebirds were beaten 6-2.

“Ben scored both the goals and he gave Will Richards, one of the best central defenders in the division, a torrid time in that game.

“We could not bring him in last season but he is on board now and I think he will be a great asset for the club.

“He can play off another striker and he is good in and around the box as well as scoring goals.

“With the experience that Oggie and I have as strikers I am positive we can improve him as a player too.

“My brother Al played with him at Chippenham and said he has a definite eye for a goal and works hard for the team.

“He’s only 23 and still has ambitions to play at a higher level. He’s a good signing and completes the strikers in my squad with Al and Aidan Bennett.”
