THIS year's Great Tetbury Hospital Boules Competition attracted more than twice the number of teams as last year.

24 local teams took part in boules competition on May 21 at the Royal Oak in Tetbury.

The now annual completion has a French theme running throughout the day, starting with coffee and croissants and merguez sausages for lunch.

To add a bit of zip to the day the winners of each round were given a shot of Cornish Pastis.

The final was between ‘Bouled Over’ and ‘The Late Starters’ with the Late Starters winning the day. The event raised over £2,000 for Tetbury Hospital.

Event organiser Andy Cole of wine store ‘Vinotopia’ commented: “The event could not have taken place without the huge support from local businesses.

"We are extremely grateful to all local businesses (Moloh, Tetbury Tailor, Qualyes, Willow Munro, Cassa, Peter Unsworth Paintings, Mayfair & Grace, Artique, Lizzio, French Grey, Domestic Science and Scentiments) who donated raffle prizes.

"Jessie Smiths provided the merguez sausages, Leopard Press printed tickets and posters, James Pyle from James Pyle Estate Agents provided expert help both before and on the day and huge thanks to the Royal Oak for providing the venue and catering”.
