RECORDS tumbled at the fifth annual Parkinson's Charity Day at Cirencester Golf Club last Friday.
The 120 golfers (men and ladies) who competed in the Gloucestershire Pairs Challenge made it a record turn-out and the sum raised of more than £7,000 for Parkinson’s UK and the local Cirencester and Stroud Parkinson’s Group also beat the previous best for the event.
The weather was kind with some high quality golf fitting the occasion, not least a first ever hole in one, at the 13th hole, for Ken Gillies.
Parkinson's UK would like to thank the many local companies who supported the event – Aura Care Living, Audi (Tetbury), Joerns Healthcare, Pebley Beach, McCarthy and Stone, Churchill Retirement Homes, Nailsworth Garden Machinery, Nailsworth Physio, the Amberley Inn, the Ashcroft Practice and the Cricklade Osteopathic Clinic along with several individuals.
The event was the culmination of an immense amount of work by the Clubbing Together team, four of whom are Parkinson’s sufferers, who all wish to “find a cure”.
The major prize winners were: Mens Best Pair: Andy Paul (Bromsgrove GC) and Russell Paul (Carswell GC).
Ladies Best Pair: Fiona Harrington and Kate Dymoke (both Cirencester GC).
Best Parkinson Pair: Christine Clarke and Peter Stone (both Cirencester).
Mixed Team: Peter and Rachael Allen.
