SCAMMING parents and the community as a whole by playing on fears of children and cancer in order to make money for yourself is nothing short of an utter disgrace.

Police and the charity commission are investigating an organisation which claims to be collecting money to help provide “information regarding reducing the risk of cancer” in children.

Street collectors for NPCCS were seen in Cirencester last week, handing out leaflets and asking for suggested donations of 50p, but have aroused the suspicions of many.

With the phone number and email listed on the leaflets invalid, residents should be wary of handing over any money to this organisation.

A man who claimed to be the director of the organisation told the Standard it is not yet approved by trading standards or a registered as a charity, though was adamant everything was above board.

If it is in fact a money-making scam, it is certainly one that punches well below the belt.
