  • OVER 50 people from the very young to the fairly old (and many dogs) joined the Boundary Walk through Kempsford, Dudgrove, Whelford and Dunfield. The weather was perfect. It was a wonderful chance to chat with old friends and make new ones. Thanks to the kind landowners and householders who allowed us to walk on their land and the people who welcomed us with delicious snacks at the places we rested.
  • HOLY Communion Sunday, May 28 10am at Kempsford Church led by Revd Lynn Hayler.
  • THIS Friday, May 26 at 5pm in Kempsford Church a Taize Service will be held. This is in response to The Archbishop of Canterbury’s invitation to pray as one for people to know Jesus Christ.
  • ZUMBA is not on this Monday, May 29 but will start again Monday, June 5 at Kempsford Village Hall 6-7.45pm.
  • NO VILLAGE Cafe at Kempsford Village Hall on Thursday, June 8, the hall is needed for the General Election. The Post Office will be in residence as usual.
  • LIVE Music at Whelford Social Club this Saturday, May 27 plus regular Bingo on Wednesdays and Sundays.
  • ONLY a few people turned up to help with the annual village litter pick up but the stalwart volunteers managed to tidy quite a large area.
  • FOOTBALL and Youth Group are not meeting Wednesday, May 31 as it is the school break.
  • TWELVE girls from Kempsford School played in a football match against Kemble and won back the Kempsford Cup.Well done to all the team.
  • GOOD luck to the children from Kempsford School who are entering the first round of the “Kitchen Club Spice Trail Cooking Competition” in the School Hall today. Finalists will go through to the second round tomorrow May 26. The winners will represent Kempsford Primary at the final inter school Spice Trail Cooking Competition at the Fairford Festival on June 4.
  • RIDERS of vintage, post-vintage and classic Motor Cycles turned at at Kempsford Village Hall for the Road Trials Championship. The most spectacular was a 1922 BSA tricar driven by two ladies from Malvern.

  • ON SATURDAY, May 27 and Thursday, June 1 Elmer Day fun is on at Fairford Library. Come along between 10-11am and listen to Elmer stories and have some crafty fun at Fairford Library. All ages are welcome. Children eight years old and under must be accompanied by an adult. These are free events. To book a place, phone the Library on 01285 712599.
  • THE Kitchen Club are hosting an Afternoon Tea Children’s Cooking workshop over half term on Wednesday, May 31 at Fairford Community Centre. The Kitchen Club is a group of teachers that are passionate about teaching cooking and work with primary-aged children to teach them not only the skills of cooking but also the importance of nutrition.
  • MINI Praise at St Mary’s Church, Fairford is on Thursday, June 1 at 1.45pm for pre-schoolers and their carers. A lovely little free session with stories, songs, crafts, and snacks.
  • NEW for Fairford Festival 2017 will be an open air cinema evening screening of Slumdog Millionaire to compliment the Indian theme of this year’s popular community and family festival. The film will be shown to start of the festival on Thursday, June 1 at 9.30pm in the grounds of Fairford Cricket Club, Park Street. Gates open from 8pm with food and drinks available to purchase. Admission is £3. It will be in the marquee if wet.
  • FAIRFORD Fire Service are going to embark on a “swimathon” on Saturday, September 2 from Cricklade to Lechlade to raise money for the Lechlade Memorial Hall fund. They are passionate about community links and are committed to helping with the redevelopment of the Memorial Hall, which was destroyed by arson in May 2016.   • COTSWOLD District Council is warning residents in our area about a Council tax refund scam. A resident has received a telephone call from a ‘company’ which allegedly works for CDC. The resident was told he was due to receive a £6,000 Council tax refund because his council tax banding had been too high in the past. Please be aware that people involved in this scam may be targeting residents in this area, so please do not enter into any discussions with the caller or disclose any personal information such as banking details.
  • DESPITE lots of reminders and the possibility of a hefty fine if you are caught allowing your dog to foul public footpaths and other areas without picking up afterwards, the problem is getting worse. One resident has complained about finding dog mess two days in a row right by her front doorstep. Please help to stop this happening by clearing up after your pet and reporting anyone you see not picking up their pet’s mess to Cotswold District Council on 01285 623000.

  • LECHLADE Festival is on this weekend with an extensive line up of bands and singers. Indie band The Hoosiers and rhythm and blues band Dr Feelgood are just two of the headliners. Activities include dance and craft workshops and a daily children’s party. Friday night is a party night with ABBA, Rolling Stones and Mod music tribute bands. Festival closes on Sunday night. Children 16 and under go free and a new Young Adult ticket benefits 17 to 19 year olds.   • DISCOVER the Hidden Gems of Lechlade on Saturday, June 3, when a number of small gardens open to the public, some for the first time. Tea and homemade cake will be available in one garden throughout the afternoon. A roving ticket/programme is on sale at Lechlade Post Office at £5. Children under 16 years are free.
  • LECHLADE Art Society will be holding a new spring exhibition over the Bank Holiday weekend, Saturday and Sunday, May 27 and 28 from 10am-6pm and Monday 29 from 10am-4pm. This will be in the Long Room at the rear of the New Inn.
  • PHOENIX Recorder Orchestra will give a concert with conductor Pam Smith at 7.30 pm on Saturday, June 10 in St Lawrence Church, Lechlade. This highly regarded orchestra plays a wide repertoire on the full range of recorders, from the garklein (a tiny recorder) to three sub-great bass recorders. Tickets £10, to include a drink, from Lechlade Post Office or Jay Mathews 01367 860869.
