JAMES Bond actor Sir Roger Moore has died aged 89, his family has announced.

Sir Roger, who is a regular visitor to Cirencester, was also a UNICEF ambassador and author, died today (Tuesday, May 23) in Switzerland, after a short battle with cancer.

“It is with a heavy heart that we must announce our loving father, Sir Roger Moore, has passed away,” said the statement.

“We know our own love and admiration will be magnified many times over, across the world, by people who knew him for his films, his television shows and his passionate work for UNICEF which he considered to his greatest achievement.

“Thank you Pops for being you, and for being so very special to so many people,” it added.

The popular actor, who starred in seven films as iconic spy James Bond, last appeared on stage in November at London’s Royal Festival Hall.

In accordance with Sir Roger’s wishes, a private funeral will be held in Monaco.
