TODAY is the last day to register to vote in the general election.

Cotswold District Council is once again reminding people to register to vote for the upcoming General Election.

The deadline to register is midnight tonight (May 22) and anyone who does not register by then will not be eligible to vote on June 8.

Additionally, those wishing to vote by post must apply by 5pm on Tuesday, May 23.

The last date for proxy vote applications is 5pm on Wednesday 31 May.

You can register to vote by visiting https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

To be able to vote, you must:

  • be registered
  • be 18 or over on the day of the election (polling day)
  • be a British, Commonwealth or EU citizen
  • be resident at an address in the area you wish to vote in
  • not be legally excluded from voting

Your vote matters - the General Election gives you the chance to have your say on important issues that affect the nation.

Voting can also affect you in other ways.

Did you know that being registered to vote can make it easier for you to apply for a loan or mortgage?

It can even help your credit score.

Sarah Dalby, electoral services manager at CDC, said: “There is still time to register – it only takes a few minutes as the online procedure is very easy, and it ensures that you have the opportunity to influence what is going on at Westminster.”
