LONG-STANDING town councillor Stephen Boulton has been elected as Mayor of Fairford.

Cllr Boulton, who joined the council in 2009, was chosen by his fellow councillors to serve as mayor until May 2018 at the annual town council meeting on Tuesday.

“I am honoured to have been chosen to represent my town in this way,” said Cllr Boutlon, who replaces former mayor Jennie Sanford.

“I hope that I will be an effective mayor and achieve positive changes for Fairford,” he said.

He thanked Cllr Sanford “who has done an amazing job” during her two years in the role.

“She will be a hard act to follow,” he added.

Over the years, Cllr Boulton has served on the planning, finance, highways, and procedures committees, and most recently held the position of chair of the works & communities committee.

The council would also like to thank Cllr Mark Dudley, who has been chosen, once again, to be deputy mayor of Fairford.

"Cllr Dudley has done sterling work in this role for the last year, and we are delighted that he has agreed to continue for 2017-2018," said a council spokeswoman.

The annual meeting of the town is being held on Thursday, May 25 at 7pm in Fairford Community Centre.

Everyone is welcome to attend and it is a great opportunity to meet your councillors and find out about future developments for Fairford.
