CIRENCESTER head pro Ed Goodwin had to settle for an honourable fourth place in the Total Triumph Order of Merit for Gloucestershire & Somerset golf professionals which came to an end last week.

Goodwin finished the season-ending Total Triumph Strokeplay Championship which was played over 36 holes at The Kendleshire in seventh place.

The winner there was Clevedon assistant pro Ashley Mansell who despite the success finished 16 points adrift of Order of Merit winner Giuseppe Licata, the Chipping Sodbury GC teaching professional.

Licata thus became the first player to win the Total Triumph OoM on three separate occasions.

Licata, who played with a protective slipper for much of the season after breaking his toe, won six times over the season.

Goodman, fourth in the Order of Merit, missed out by one for a place at the Regional Qualifier for the County Championship event later in the year – the three slots go to Licata, Mansell and Broadway’s Russ Berry who was third in the series.

But by finishing in the top 16 Goodwin has secured entry to the Marston's Matchplay Championship at Chipping Sodbury in late August.

The qualifiers are subject to availability: Giuseppe Licata (Chipping Sodbury), Ashley Mansell (Clevedon), Russ Berry (Broadway), Ed Goodwin (Cirencester), George Ryall (Burnham & Berrow), Paul Barrington (InPlayGolf), Ian Brown (Newent), Andrew March (Brean), Robin Goodey (Chipping Sodbury), Ross Langdon (Brickhampton Court), Daryl Kelley (Filton), Scott Thompson (Mendip Spring), Mark Pitcher (Stinchcombe Hill), Josh Davies (Sherdons GC), James Jakes (Knowle), Nick Ellis (Naunton Downs).
