GLOUCESTER DOCKS will welcome thousands of spectators as its highly anticipated Dragonboat Regatta event returns.
Taking place on Sunday, 7 May from 10am and running through until 6pm, thirty local teams will be competing in decorative dragon boats with races every 10 minutes.
Organised by the Rotary Club of Gloucester Severn, the one day event raises thousands of pounds for worthy charities both home and abroad. The event also hosts family friendly entertainment with a funfair, stalls, face painters and musical entertainers.
One of the organisers Steve Markham is eagerly awaiting this year’s event: ”Everything is ready for another bumper day. Fingers crossed the weather will be dry and sunny, but come what may there will be lots going on in the Docks to keep young and old entertained!”
Originated in China over 2,000 years ago, dragon boat racing involves 16 rowers sitting side by side in a 40-foot-long colourful canoe with a helm to steer and a drummer beating a rowing rhythm.
