UPSTANDING members of Cricklade society have been honoured at the annual community awards ceremony.

A variety of awards were handed out during the evening that recognised people in the town who had gone above and beyond the call of duty throughout the year.

The community group of the year award was presented to Cricklade Link Scheme, a group of volunteers who provide services for people who find it difficult to use public transport or where there is none available.

Some of the services they provide includes picking people up in Cricklade High Street and taking them to hospitals, collecting and delivering prescriptions and library books and undertaking minor housing repairs and those using the services are only asked to make a modest donation.

Among the other winners was William Hebberd, an explorer scout with 2nd Cricklade who won the young person of the year award.

William has received the highest award achievable as a scout, the chief scouts gold award. He was also nominated for his work supporting the Town festival, litter picking, the Christmas lights switch-on and the duck race.

Jeremy Anderson received the Cricklade Community Award for his part in raising more than £7,000 to provide defibrillators throughout the town.

The life-saving devices have been installed at Hallsfield, Culverhay Stores and Cricklade Rugby Football Club.
