WILTSHIRE Council has announced that more than ninety per cent of families have received an offer from their first choice primary school for the next academic year.

According to statistics released by the council this week, 92 per cent of children got their first choice, with 98 per cent receiving an offer from one of their top three picks.

Carolyn Godfrey, Wiltshire Council corporate director said: “Finding out your child’s first school is an important milestone for families and I’m pleased that once again in Wiltshire so many will be attending a school of their choice this September.”

The news comes less than a month after it was discovered that Lea and Garsdon Primary School faces an uncertain future.

Wiltshire Council has commissioned a feasibility study into the school as it seeks to find provide more places in the area.

The local authority has identified a number of options, including expanding the school.

However, many parents, who choose to send their children to the rural school, are concerned it could face closure under an option to relocate the school to the nearby Filands development.

A survey has been set-up by the Save Lea and Garsdon school campaign group to establish future demand.
