FIREFIGHTERS from Cricklade needed the help of two other crews to tackle a large fire at an industrial estate in the town yesterday evening.
The incident involved a number of pick-up trucks on Braydon Lane and residents from as far afield as Swindon said they could see the thick black smoke billowing into the sky.
A fire service spokesperson said: “At 6.41pm we received the first of eight calls to a large fire near to Braydon Lane, Cricklade.
“Initially one fire engine was mobilised from Cricklade and one from Stratton.
“Once in attendance the crew requested a further two fire engines, which proceeded from Swindon and Stratton fire stations, and a water carrier, which proceeded from Royal Wootton Bassett.
“The fire involved pick-up truck bodies and an insulated refrigeration truck body.
“The fire was extinguished using two main jets, along with a thermal imaging camera and drags.”
The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.
