POLICE have said a "boy has been identified" in relation to an attack on a pony at Bourton Vale Equestrian Centre.
A video was shared thousands of times on social media over the Bank Holiday weekend showing a boy throwing a stone at a white pony in a field.
Commenters were horrified by the footage, though police say an officer will be speaking to a boy and his parents in relation to the incident.
"We have received a report of stones being thrown at a pony in Bourton Vale Equestrian Centre," said a spokesman for Gloucestershire Police.
"Inquiries are ongoing. A boy has been identified and a local officer is due to speak to him and his parents about the matter."
Leanne Launchbury, who appears to own the horse, wrote on Facebook that she reported the incident to the police.
“I am so angry I am shaking,” she wrote after sharing the video on her Facebook page on Monday.
She later wrote that a name had been passed onto Gloucestershire Police in relation with the incident.
“I am confident this matter will be dealt with,” she said. “I do not condone bullying in any form and threats of violence are no better than throwing stones at a pony.”
The video was also re-tweeted to the Twitter account for lifestyle blog The Cotswold Gentleman, and has been retweeted nearly 4,000 times.
