FORMER England rugby union player Jonathan Webb will be in Lechlade tomorrow (Saturday, April 8) to officially re-open the Pavilion building.

The Oak Street building suffered an arson attack last summer, in which the office was largely destroyed.

However, having since been refurbished, the Pavilion will be re-opened by Webb from 11am to midday.

Having played for the England national team from 1987 to 1993, reaching the 1991 World Cup Final and winning two Five Nations grand slam titles, the former full-back retired in 1993.

Simon Paul, chair of trustees, said: "To borrow an Olympic games expression, we are keen to inspire the next generation, so would like to involve as many young people as possible in this event, particularly those who have an interest in rugby.

"If you are in Lechlade on Saturday morning, please come along to meet Jonathan.

"We want to use this occasion to showcase what a good community facility the pavilion provides.

"It is also a tangible example of us turning the terrible arson attacks on the Memorial Hall and Pavilion into an opportunity to provide better facilities for our community."
