THE former home of Fairford’s last-remaining High Street bank is to be converted into a retail unit, a town house and flats, if plans are approved by Cotswold District Council (CDC).
Lloyds Bank’s decision to close the town’s branch in November was met with outcry from both residents and the parish council, with the closest branches in Cirencester and Cricklade.
The banking group cited a drop in footfall to the branch over recent years as its main reason for the closure.
Just 30 customers were said to be using the bank on a weekly basis.
Agents Orchard Associates submitted the application on behalf of applicant Tracey Bohane on February 27.
A decision on the proposal for the three-storey building will be made by CDC in the near future.
Lloyds Bank and Bank House was designed by architect V.A. Lawson, and completed in 1901.
An ATM, which was added in 1998, was also retired after the bank’s closure on November 8.
The application can be viewed at cotswold.gov.uk/planning/online-planning-register and searching for 17/00867/FUL.
