  • THE planting of the landscaped areas around Fenton’s will involve digging holes to take well over a 1,000 shrubs and small trees. This will be carried out by volunteers on Tuesday, March 14 starting at about 9am. James Harris will supervise the work and anyone capable of using a fork or spade is welcome to turn up and help. Bring your own tools and food. Coffee and tea will be provided by the café. 
  • THE official opening of Fenton’s is on Saturday, March 18 at 2pm. This is an opportunity for everyone to see the new building and what it has to offer our village.
  • THE Cirencester branch of Soroptimist International is holding a quiz night in South Cerney Village Hall on Friday, April 7 at 7pm to raise funds for Water Aid. Teams of four are invited at £10 per player which will include a hot supper, tickets from Anne Croft 01285 860753.
  • COFFEEPOT is being held in the United Church from 10am-12.30pm on Saturday, March 18 serving coffee and tea with a variety of cakes, toasted tea cakes and cheese scones. No charge but donations towards Cirencester Signpost most welcome.
  • THE Mobile Library will next be in South Cerney on Wednesday, March 15 outside Atkyn’s Manor in Silver Street from 1.30-3pm. It is free to join this service and books of all types can be borrowed and there is the free use of a computer. For more details go to gloucestershire.gov.uk/libraries or phone 0845 230 5420.
  • THE village hall club meets on Friday, March 17, doors open at 7pm with entertainment starting at 7.30pm. Licensed bar and raffle. Anyone can join the club, for details contact Mike Stuart.
  • YOUTH football training sessions start this evening Thursday, March 9, for the under-11s and 12s at the Upper Up sports field between 5-6pm. Training will continue at those times until the clocks go forward when the sessions will be from 6-7.30pm.

  • THE second phase of planting in the new nature area on the playing field takes place on Thursday, March 9, at 1pm. Residents are invited to help plant the remaining native shrubs, approximately 100 whips, and some native flowering bulbs. Please bring a spade and/or trowel if you have one.
  • A SONGS of Praise service is at St Peter’s Church on Sunday, March 12, starting at 6pm.
  • SIDDINGTON Evergreen Club meets in the Elizabeth Way Community Room at 2.30pm on Tuesday, March 14. The speakers this month are Peter and Cathy Cotty, who will be talking about their visit to Canada.
  • THE Parish Council meets on Tuesday, at 7.30pm in the Village Hall Committee Room. Siddington residents welcome.

  • THE March book club meeting is on March 9. The book of the month is The Dementia Whisperer by Agnes Juhasz. April’s book is The Invisible Man by HG Wells. For more details see the March Down Ampney News. New members always welcome.
  • PARISH Communion for the second Sunday of Lent will be held at 10am at Driffield on Sunday, March 12, followed by the 4Families service at 4pm at Harnhill.
  • SOMETHING old, something new is the subject of Paul Green’s talk to the Down Ampney Gardening Club on March 16 in the village hall at 7.30pm. This month’s competition is, something blue from your garden.
  • PAST pupils of Poulton School from Down Ampney and Poulton are invited to a reunion in memory of Jim Nunn, to be held in Poulton Village Hall on Saturday, May 13 from 2-5pm. Tickets are available in advance from Down Ampney resident Rosemary Houston (nee Ash) at £5 each. Tea and cake will be provided and there will be a raffle.
