A FUNDRAISING weekend is being held to support two local families who lost their mothers this month.

South Cerney resident Mandi Bumphrey and owner of the village's Royal Oak pub, Amanda Scrivens, will be holding a series of events this weekend to support the families of Hannah Wood and Patsy Dee.

30-year-old Hannah Wood, a former Cirencester Kingshill pupil who lived in Stroud, died after her car hit a tree and burst into flames near Tetbury on February 13.

Her death has meant that her partner Jon Newman now has to take care of their four-year-old son Jamie by himself.

Patsy Dee, 55, from Cirencester died earlier this month due to an ongoing heart problem.

Patsy left behind three children, Shannon, Jodie and Kai. Shannon, the eldest daughter in her 20s will now have to take care of her two younger siblings.

Mandi said: "Last week Cirencester was shattered by the news that two separate families have both been left without the love and support of their mother.

"As a mother and grandmother, I cannot just sit here and do nothing so I have got together with Amanda at the Royal Oak South Cerney, who kindly donated her premises for the weekend of March 4 and 5 to enable us to do some fundraising events."

On Saturday, March 4, the Royal Oak in South Cerney will be holding a family fun day from noon until 5pm. Families can enjoy games, hot dogs, a bouncy castle and some stalls.

In the evening, adults can come along to an 80s disco from 8pm until 11.30pm. Entry is £3 in advance or £5 on the door with a prize for the best dressed party goer and a raffle.

A car boot sale will be held on the Sunday from 8am until noon. The cost is £5 per car and £8 per van.

The weekend will finish with an afternoon tea at the pub from 4pm to 6pm. Visitors will be able to enjoy a cup of tea and sandwiches and cakes for £6.50.

Mandi said: "If anyone can help with maybe a raffle prize, or something to put on the tombola stall or even a tin of meat to help make the sandwiches for the afternoon tea, it would be appreciated.

"Even if you have nothing to donate please do try and come along to support this really worthwhile cause."
